How do you unite 26,000 employees, across 13 time zones and 52 cities, in one shared global experience? That was the brief from PayPal, to create an interactive, inclusive celebration that would transcend geography, culture, and working styles. The event needed to feel personal, inspiring, and joyful - not a corporate obligation. We were tasked with designing a 24-hour live programme that appealed to all ages and backgrounds, incorporating local cultural relevance while maintaining global cohesion. A key success metric was high engagement: this needed to feel like a once-in-a-career moment. FUEL’s mission was to collaborate closely with individual PayPal offices across the globe, curate standout talent, and deliver high production values that made every region feel seen and celebrated. And it all had to happen seamlessly, across 13 unique schedules, cultures, and platforms… Without missing a beat!

the experience

Welcome to the PayPal Global Gathering: a truly borderless, cultural celebration. The event rolled out over 24 hours across eight time-zone-specific live programmes, beginning in China and travelling west through EMEA, the UK and Ireland, the Americas, and then circling back to Australia, Manila and India. FUEL designed and produced 72 hours of content in total, featuring more than 60 unique live and pre-recorded experiences, from music and dance to spoken word, magic, and cultural storytelling. We sourced top-tier global talent that reflected the diversity of PayPal’s workforce, ensuring every region saw itself on screen. Delivered through our immersive virtual platform VStage, the event included live chat, emoji reactions, a virtual dancefloor, photobooth, and regional gifting, where every employee received a product from a small local PayPal-powered business. It wasn’t just a stream, it was a real-time, global party with thousands participating at once, connecting across continents through shared emotion and celebration.

The Global Gathering didn’t just meet expectations - it became a defining cultural moment for PayPal. Over 37,000 visits and nearly 11,000 unique logins proved the global appetite for connection. Employees posted over 11,500 comments and 6,300 GIFs, with 2,300 joining the dancefloor, 2,500 jumping into mingle chats, and 2,100 photobooth moments captured. The emotional resonance was just as powerful. Feedback poured in from offices around the world - from Chicago to Brazil - describing the event as “unthinkable,” “spectacular,” and “a moment in time for our global community.” What started as a complex logistical challenge became a celebration of culture, creativity, and connection on a global scale. For FUEL, it was a masterclass in what we do best, crafting experiences that are more than events; they’re movements. This wasn’t just one team delivering an event, it was one global workforce, brought together by powerful storytelling, innovation, and real-time magic.
